Battle of Champions to push through tomorrow
The boxing extravaganza set for Memorial Day weekend will push through as planned tomorrow night at the Garapan Central Park Roundhouse.
“Saipan Boxing Battle of Champions” will feature two main events and four preliminary amateur bouts with fighters hailing from the Philippines, Korea, Thailand, Guam, and Saipan.
The first main event will have the Philippines’ Bert Dalisay trading blows with Thailand’s Surasak Makordae in the 122-lb. weight class. The second main will then have Nonoy Gonzales, also of the Philippines, taking on Korea’s Kim Doo Soung in the 140-lb. division.
Both main events are scheduled to go for 10 rounds with the winner of the 122-lb. division taking home the “2005 Saipan Champion” trophy, while the winner of the 144-lb. division will bag the 2005Saipan Great Match Champion” trophy.
Organizers said the four amateur fights would be contested by up-and-coming prizefighters from Guam and Saipan.
Among the notable names mentioned participating in the undercard matches are Saipan’s Aguinaldo Tesado and Miguel Corpuz and Guam’s Jarvis Laduido and Keith Corpuz.
Ticket price for general admission is $20 but organizers are giving a special promotion in time for Fathers Day. Any father can buy a ticket and bring a guest free of charge, according to organizers. Fight time is set at 6pm.
