Calvary Christian Academy ended the high school year by honoring its three graduates Thursday night at the school church auditorium.

Yveth Marie L. Mafnas, the class valedictorian, was also recently named as one of the recipients of scholarship funding from the Saipan Chamber of Commerce.

Mafnas said in her speech that, without the help and support of the people who believed in her, she would not have made it to the top of her class. She thanked her parents and teachers for pointing her in the right direction.

School principal and Board of Education teacher representative Scott Norman said Mafnas truly deserved such a high honor from the school and from the community.

He said Mafnas is “a real trooper” as she has remained humble despite receiving several awards from the community. Mafnas was a youth senator in the last few years. She currently works for telecom firm Verizon and her colleagues and superior attended the graduation ceremony last Thursday.

The other graduates were Jeffrey Abrenilla Rocha and Leo Antonio B. Valeros. Both graduates were also given the privilege to speak so they could thank their parents, guardians and friends. Rocha thanked his father for believing in him and he said, though he had not been a perfect son, he knew his father has always wanted the best for him.

Pastor and administrator Tom Allred led the opening prayer for the ceremony. Rocha led the scripture reading and faculty members rendered musical numbers.
