Grace Christian Academy’s high school valedictorian, Soledad Franchesca B. Camacho, said she is very proud that a Chamorro is this year’s top honor student during her valedictory address last Friday.

Camacho, the eldest child of Chamorro parents, said her achievement would at least prove to everybody that “Chamorros could still do better.”

Camacho shared that she could not believe her ears when the school declared her the valedictorian of the Class of 2005. She told her mom to call the school back and verify, as both of them could not believe the news. She said she aspires to be a teacher someday and want to teach children to be like her.

Camacho made a very light speech that made everyone in the audience laugh; she became emotional, though, when she thanked her teacher and adviser for all the support that they have given her.

Salutatorian Nigel Perry H. Cacdac also delighted the crowd with his speech and advised his fellow graduates that, “Life is too short, so we all should make the most of it.” He also stressed that having goals in their lives should be a priority.

First honorable mention was Nicole Alessandra DLG. Benjamin. Second honorable mention was Kristine Erika Komatsu and third honorable mention was Glenn Samuel M. Songcuan.

Other members of the graduating class of 2005 were Brian Kim J. Clamor, Young Hoon Joo, Hironori Kamei, Michael Thomas L. Malone, Allison C. Manglona, Miguelito P. Paez, Mei Po Poon, Roger L. Romero, and Mark Lloyd C. Tabei.

Senior class adviser Delia Dela Llana-Shires also gave a farewell speech, saying that, although she would leave the school soon to live permanently in the U.S. mainland, she knows that her students would never forget her and that she would always treasure the memories she has of the school and her students.

GCA board chair Rev. Raymond L. Kinsella reminded the graduates of the honor and responsibilities attendant to being members of the community and as Christians.

Principal Faith Dela Rosa and Kinsella presented the diplomas to the high school graduates.
