Borja and Sablan graduate with high honors
The Mount Carmel High School commencement ceremony honored valedictorian Emanuel Borja and salutatorian Juanet Sablan at the Mount Carmel Cathedral Saturday evening.
In her speech to her peers, Sablan challenged the graduates to be faithful and brave, “Take the untaken path.”
Following her speech, Sablan filled the cathedral with her angelic voice to a song she dedicated to the graduates.
Borja, on the other hand, declared this year to be the first year for all MCS seniors to receive diplomas.
MCS president Margaret C. Dela Cruz acknowledged the achievements and successes the graduates made in their years with MCS.
Among others, Dela Cruz recognized graduate Michael Deleon Guerrero for winning the 22nd Annual AG’s Cup Speech Competition. “Graduates you have set the bar very high for future seniors of this school.”
Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente awarded Jacqueline Che with the Governor’s Leadership award. Borja received the President’s award for meritorious achievement and the National Honor Society Scholarship award.
The Bishop Thomas A. Camacho Christian Service award and the Joeten Scholarship award went to Sablan.
Students graduating with honors included Sung Hyuk Ra, Jacqueline Che, Carl Sumalpong, Jenise Takai, Anneka Hofschneider, Dolores Benavente, and Maria Mendoza.
Others government officials on hand to commend the graduates were Saipan Mayor Juan Tudela and Parent Teacher Association president Francis Sablan.
