The wait for the start of the much-anticipated BANMI 25-and-under Basketball League playoffs ends tonight as league officials confirmed that the road to crowning the 2005 champion begins with a double-header at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The playoffs was originally set to kick off Monday but was rescheduled in observance of Memorial Day.

With that, coach Joe Diaz and his fourth-seeded Garapan Rollers try to carry their momentum and take on fifth-seed Ulloa’s in Game 1 at 6:30pm while the run-and-gun attack of the San Antonio Wildcats put their skills to the test against a dangerous Ghasias 7-Kings squad in Game 2 at 8pm.

Pennant champion Toyota Prius enters the thrilling stage as the top seed and will face the winner between the G-Rollers-Ulloa’s bout at 6:30pm in Game 3 on Friday, while fellow powerhouse SaipanCell-NMC Hoopaholics await the victor of the Wildcats-7-Kings match in Game 4.

If both Prius and Hoopaholics live up to expectations, the two will find themselves banging heads in Part III of their showdown on Monday. If not, the winners of Game 3 and 4 will battle on the mentioned date, with the victor earning a one-way ticket to the championship game.

With officials confirming availability of funds, each team can avail of the double-elimination format, meaning a team will not be eliminated from play until losing two games in the playoffs. A team that loses its first game will be directed to the losers’ bracket.

The championship game is scheduled to take place on June 15 at 7pm. If the team working from the losers’ bracket wins on that date, a do-or-die match will be held on June 17.
