Police have arrested and detained three teenage boys who are suspected of setting fire to a Kagman High School classroom Saturday night last week.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric F. David said yesterday that the arrests came following the issuance of an arrest warrant by Superior Court judge David A. Wiseman Thursday.

David did not disclose the identities of the suspects, who are all juveniles. But he described the ages of two suspects as 15 and another as 16.

The spokesman did not say if the suspects are KHS students.

“[Because] the suspects are juveniles, their charges [would] remain sealed until the final disposition in court,” David said.

There were indications, though, that the charges could include burglary and theft, besides arson.

David said the joint task force that arrested the suspects included members of the Thief Apprehension Select Coalition. The task force also included men of the DPS Special Investigation Section and fire investigators.

David said the suspects intentionally set fire to the school’s Environmental Science and Oceanography Room Saturday night last week. No one was injured at the fire scene. Arson and TASC investigators responded to the incident.

Arson investigator Martin A. Pua earlier said that the suspects barged inside the southern portion of the school by destroying a hallway window and burglarized some classrooms. He said his team found a hollow block near the shattered window that was believed to be the suspects’ point of entry.

Pua said some items were missing from the room. He added that another classroom was also burglarized, from which some items were also missing.

Saturday’s fire gutted some $50,000 worth of computer and information technology equipment, including LCD projectors and a laptop acquired through federal grants.

A 29-inch television had melted due to the intensity of the heat; the fire reduced microscopes, desktop computers, printers, and wireless computer modems to cinders.
