Cui tops SDA elementary school
Being the only rose among the thorns didn’t prevent Xian Xian Cui from getting top honors in the 8th grade graduating class of the Seventh Day Adventist Elementary School.
Aside from finishing ahead of her classmates, Cui also served as class president for school year 2004-2005.
Her vice president, Allen John “A.J.” Babauta, was the salutatorian. Other SDA graduates were Wilfredo Palacios Paez, Emmanuel James “E.J.” Bautista, Raymond Santos, Yong Jun Cha, and Min Su Cho.
The brief graduation ceremony was held Thursday night at the SDA Center. It started with a national anthem sung by Antonio Pialug and rest of the class of 2006. Santos led the opening prayer as school principal Barbara Maycock gave welcome remarks to parents and their graduating children.
Keynote speaker during the ceremony was Bryant Moor, a former teacher, who, according to the school, had shepherded many of the students through their 6th and 7th grade years at SDA. Moor now teaches at the Saipan International School. Cui and schoolmate Ana Inos also rendered special musical numbers.
Babauta led the graduating class in presenting their tokens, or gifts, to their teachers followed by a surprise video presentation to the graduates, with their photos taken during their entire stay at the school.
The graduating class thanked their parents for their support, encouragement and patience. They also thanked the sponsors who made it possible for them to visit the Philippines and Thailand for an educational journey this year, which they said they would forever cherish.
