SSC offers new training in Marpi
With a pair of virtual meets taking place within the next month and the 2005 South Pacific Mini Games in Palau right around the corner, the organizers of the Saipan Swim Club certainly have their hands full.
Rather than focusing solely on their tasks at hand, the SSC is joining forces with the American Red Cross to offer swimming lessons for the people of Saipan at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi.
The American Red Cross has been offering training and tips on how to be safe in, on, and around the water since 1914, and the tradition continues next Monday, June 13, with a new collection of courses designed to make learning easier.
According to ARC figures, almost 2 million people learn to swim every year with their program, and next week children ages four and above will be able to gain proficiency in the Red Cross Levels 1-8.
The hour-long lessons will begin promptly Monday morning at 7am will continue through Friday, and will benefit the public as well as the local aquatic enthusiasts, as proceeds from the sessions will go toward the continuation of the SSC program.
The cost to participate in the instructional session is $40 per child, and families entering a third child will receive a discount.
In addition to teaching people the fundamentals, the SSC is offering an all-new training group for kids, who wish to use swimming as a vehicle to maintain a level of physical fitness as opposed to a form of competition.
Beginning Monday, June 13, the White Team will practice for an hour Monday through Thursdays starting at 2:30pm. The cost to train under the watchful eye of the SSC will be $30 per month.
