Another son of the CNMI has joined the long tradition of sons and daughters of the CNMI responding to the call of duty to serve and defend the nation.

Pvt. Joshua P. Stein of Saipan completed Basic Combat Training last week with the 35th Engineer Battalion of the 1st Engineer Brigade, U.S. Army Engineer School at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

The son of Jesse P. Stein and Sandi Kaulaity, Joshua was among the 200 soldiers who achieved and completed training, physical conditioning, values education, and teamwork in Basic Combat Training.

The special ceremony took place on June 3 and marked the transition of Joshua into a long line of distinguished men and women defending the freedoms of the United States since 1775.

Present at the ceremony were CNMI Resident Representative Pete A. Tenorio, Joshua’s mom Sandi, grandma Yvonne Kaulaity, aunties Angie Stein and Carol Kaulaity and uncle Ed Pangelinan.

“On behalf of the citizens of the Commonwealth, I am honored to be here for Joshua. To witness the accomplishment of one of our own responding to the call of duty in defending freedom, liberty and democracy of our nation is an overwhelming experience. Our government has an obligation to show support and honor every soldier from the CNMI who is making the transition to carry the heavy burden of our nation’s security and protection. I wish Joshua the best and Godspeed in his service to our country,” Tenorio said. (PR)
