Accounting group claims success in workshop
More than 50 persons attended the accounting workshop sponsored by the Marianas Institute of Filipino CPA and Accountants last Saturday, July 2, at the FWCC in the Nauru Building.
Due to the lively exchange of information, the workshop, which was dubbed “Beyond Your Comfort Zone,” lasted past noon.
Four notable accountants presented the best practices and current trends in their respective industries.
For accounting practices in the shipping industry, the presenter was Jun Banadera of Saipan Shipping. Rommel Paras, the former chief accountant of Aqua Resort Club and current auditor of Ernst and Young, spoke for the hotel segment. The third presenter, PSG Professional Corp. owner Jess Pantaleon, shared his expertise in the insurance industry. Former senior accountant of Verizon and now comptroller of Micronesian Brokers Mar Marcelino spoke about accounting practices in the telecommunications industry. Marcelino also serves as president of MIFICPA.
The workshop also had an extra-special bonus, as MIFICPA unveiled its new USCPA Board Exam Review. The organization’s vice president, Chris Lubi, presented the format of the new review program, which features specific review topics and the corresponding schedule and venue of this year’s review classes.
The event also launched the much awaited and first of its kind “Accounting Idol” contest. To be held quarterly, “Accounting Idol” is an ingenious mix of a quiz, and a refresher course in accounting dashed with fun and suspense.
It is open to all members, especially for those who are planning to take the USCPA Board Exam, as well as those who simply want to keep abreast of the current best practices in accounting. Three top winners will be selected quarterly and they will all compete in the grand championship at the end of the year. Fabulous prizes await the winners.
The officers of MIFCPA extend their thanks and appreciation to all the accountants who participated in the workshop. They also wish to extend an invitation for their upcoming “Hot Lunch Sale” on July 16, 2005. For more details, visit the recently created MIFICPA homepage at www.mificpa.org. (PR)
