Arson investigators are probing the cause of a fire that razed the Navy Hill residence of a motorcycle club founder while he was participating in the Liberation Day parade Monday.

Fire broke out at the house of George Camacho, founder of the Taga Riders, around noontime Monday, police said yesterday. The Department of Public Safety received a telephone call about the incident at about 12:17pm.

DPS spokesman Eric David reported no casualty from the incident, saying that nobody was inside the house when the fire broke out.

“It was learned that the owner of the house had secured his house before leaving for the parade and that there was nobody home,” David said.

Firefighters put out the fire after a few hours, David said. Investigators later inspected the fire scene and gathered pieces of evidence from the gutted house, which is located east of the Marianas Restaurant.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire started from several points at the second floor.

Probers have already ruled out faulty electrical wiring or any natural cause in the incident, but David refused to classify the case as arson until investigators complete the probe.
