Heavy rainfall flooded Saipan yesterday, but the Emergency Management Office said no major accidents occurred along the island’s highways.

EMO spokesman Ben Cepeda said there were no reports of major flooding and evacuation of residents from low-lying areas.

Citing weather forecast by the National Weather Service, Cepeda said scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue until Thursday.

The same weather condition would affect not only Saipan, but also Tinian, Rota and portions of the Northern Islands, according to Cepeda.

In a special weather advisory released by the EMO, it advised motorists to be cautious when driving due to flooding, slippery conditions on the roads, and occasional poor visibility due to heavy rains.

EMO also reminded fishermen and marine tour operators to exercise caution at sea due to poor visibility. Cepeda said there were no reports of any distressed vessel yesterday.
