MPLA reminds candidates of permit requirements
To help candidates conform to their signboard permits, the Marianas Public Lands Authority is reminding all political candidates of specific guidelines concerning the placement of political signboards.
For example, one of the provisions of MPLA’s political signboard permits requires that no signboards exceeding a certain size are erected on the western side of Beach Road. Other provisions also require a certain distance from traffic lights to ensure vehicular safety.
“The signboard regulations were adopted by the MPLA Board of Directors to ensure that the placement of signboards minimally affects the convenience and aesthetics for our visitors and residents,” said MPLA commissioner Edward Deleon Guerrero. “Because of the number of parties and candidates this year, we want to keep our beaches and other sensitive areas free of the proliferation of political signboards.”
The MPLA compliance staff is making regular site inspections throughout the CNMI to ensure all candidates‚ compliance to their political signboard permits. Any signboards found in violation of the permit will be removed without notice starting Monday, July 25, 2005.
