An invitation to yoga, a lifelong journey
For Clarie Kosack, practicing yoga is a lifelong journey that needs a long-term commitment toward a more balanced living and healthier well-being.
Kosack has been practicing yoga for more than eight years now but it was just a year and a half ago that she finally decided to spread the word and the rewarding experience that the discipline has given her.
She has been regularly conducting yoga classes at her own studio, which she calls the Yoga Room, located at the base of Capitol Hill, right behind the wine store before the Coffee Care restaurant.
She holds regular Level 1 classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while the Level 2 classes are conducted on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Kosack said she has had several students who are practicing yoga with her now, but she said she wants to reach out to those who are interested in taking up the practice. In this regard, she will be holding a three-session introductory yoga workshop on Aug. 2, 4, and 6.
She said the workshop is for those who would want to try the calming and soothing experience of yoga, from the rudiments to the advanced level. The workshop would cost only $25 per student and it will be held from 5:30pm to 7pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Saturday workshop will start at 10:30am to 12 noon.
At the Yoga Room, Kosack has a complete set of yoga equipment and accessories, from mats and straps, to blocks and blankets. She also provides a soothing and relaxing background music while the session is ongoing.
She said introductory students would learn the basic poses, terms, and proper alignment necessary for yoga.
Kosack said the workshop intends to make the participants more comfortable and confident with their well-being. She said she aims to help the students focus on whatever they want to do in their life.
Whether you are a first time yoga student or a long time yoga practitioner, her workshop aspires to provide students the benefits of Hatha Yoga.
Kosack said yoga is neither a religion nor a sport. It is also not a competition, she said, adding that she always reminds her students to leave all their worries outside the Yoga Room.
“We practice Hatha Yoga in the Iyengar tradition, emphasizing body alignment, breath awareness, balance and spinal extension,” she said.
