Samahang Ilokano at Pangasinense had seven players finish in double figures, as the defending champions completed a cakewalk of Subway-Coca-Cola, 120-78, in the resumption of the 2005 MDX Amateur Radio Club Inter-Color Basketball League Sunday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Seeing action in the opener, SIP imposed its will against Subway right in the opening quarter and raced to a 32-14 lead.

SIP players continued their hot streak in the second, burying their overmatched opponents with a ton of points to rest with a 70-32 halftime lead.

It was the same story in the third, as the boys of playing coach Rick Alegre opened up a 93-53 spread heading into the fourth and final quarter.

The game was already decided, even as both teams went to do the motions in the final 10 minutes with SIP completing the 42-point rout.

Mobil MVP Elmer Esdrelon led SIP with 20 points, while Junar Guiab and Jason Amado came away with 19 and 18 points, respectively, in support. Also cranking up double-digit performances were Joseph Villacrusis (14 points), Brian Flores (12), James Villacrusis (11), and Alegre (10).

Michael Achas paced Subway with 19 markers, while Bong Sese and Edwin Soriano added 13 and 12 points.

In the second game, newly renamed team JCN banked on a late 3-pointer by veteran Ed Palma to edge powerhouse Cavite-Country House, 104-101.

The game was tight right from the get-go, as former teammates Andres “Jhun” Estolas, for JCN, and Dalewyn Cortez, for Cavite, tried to get their teams over the hump, but it took a clutch rainbow hit from the forgotten Palma to give JCN the sweet win.

Estolas fired a team-high 26 markers to lead JCN. JCN also got 18 points from Melvin Villarin and 17 from former IVBL MVP Kevin Cequena. Palma rifled in 10 for good measure.

Despite the sorry loss, Cortez still finished with game-high honors with 28 points aside from hauling down 19 rebounds, while former Mobil stalwarts Erol Peredo and Bernard Montano added 16 and 12 points for Cavite.

On Saturday, Poohdeni edged 287-Club Verizon, 82-76, thanks in no small part to the big games of Jawn Joyner and Pando Muleta.

Joyner scored 22 points on top 10 boards and two rejections, while Muleta had 11 points, seven caroms, four assists, and six steals. 287 Club was paced by the 15 markers of Kay Bernardo and the 12 of Jhun Sinca.

In the nightcap, long-tom artist Sonny Lerio scored eight straight points after Micronesian Brokers, Inc. cut his team’s lead to a deuce to tow SMF-Seabridge to a 109-98 win.

After MBI closed to within 84-82, Lerio scored on two straight triples and a layup to jack back up SMF’s advantage to 10 points and their opponents weren’t able to recover after that.

Lerio scored a weekend-high 34 points, while center Larry Palero led the way for MBI with 26 markers and eight rebounds.
