The French colony of New Caledonia is running away with the medal show, and with action in the 2005 Palau South Pacific Mini Games coming to a close tomorrow, no one will catch the sports powerhouse in the medal tally.

With much success in the pool, and more medals expected to come from basketball and tennis, New Caledonia can put an exclamation point at the end of its run.

The powerhouse already bagged 94 medals, 49 of them being gold. The delegation also has 25 silver and 20 bronze to go a long with the gold rush, and is expected to increase its lead over everyone with netters in the finals of the tennis men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

Fiji kept a strong hold on second place in the standings with 20 gold and an additional 19 silver and 14 bronze, while Nauru remains at third with its 18 gold.

Papua New Guinea may also add to its medal haul with representatives advancing in tennis and triathlon still up for grabs. The delegation, which was a force to be reckoned with in athletics, sports 16 gold, 10 silver, and seven bronze.

Samoa is next in line with 12 gold, seven silver, and a bronze, while host Palau has seven gold, two silver, and six bronze for sixth place.

Cook Islands follow with five gold, nine silver, and six bronze, while neighboring Marianas island Guam jumped up a notch and now leads the CNMI with five gold, six silver, and 11 bronze.

FSM and Tonga cap the top 10 with four gold medals each while CNMI dropped to 11th with two gold.
