Robles joins perfection club
It’s been over a year and a half since the CNMI witnessed a perfect game in bowling, and the wait for another to rise to the challenge and accomplish the rare feat ended Friday night as veteran Danny Robles grabbed the spotlight and rolled a perfect score of 300.
While bowling under the flag of Cooking Gas in the Philippine Bowling Association Friday Night League, the 13-year veteran in Saipan managed to keep his focus and composure, and remained poised, rolling strikes each time he stepped up to the lane.
Robles wounded up nailing each pin and 12 consecutive strikes, stamping his name into the history book.
Robles is just the fourth to accomplish the feat in NMI bowling history and first to do so at the Capitol Bowling Center in Garapan. The other three perfect games were bowled at the Saipan Bowling Center in San Jose.
The first to do so was Benny Pangelinan on March 10, 1982, and just nine days later, the performance was duplicated by Jaime Sasamoto.
CNMI had to wait more than 20 years before the feat was accomplished again as then 18-year-old Jonathan Hensley rolled to perfection on Feb. 10 last year. Instead of waiting another 20 years, Robles decided to tackle the feat and was successful in doing so.
Robles was on fire as his ball penetrated through the lined up pins like a hot knife running through butter.
The left-handed bowler worked up 10 consecutive strikes while using lanes one and two, and caught the attention of all in attendance as they moved away from their lanes just to catch a glimpse at what was going down.
Despite all eyes being set on him, Robles did not have a breakdown, unleashing another perfect roll with his Columbia 300 Panic ball that knocked down all pins.
With one down and one more to go, Robles took his time, stepped up to the challenge, and did not disappoint as his next roll was identical to his previous 11 as all pins were bruised.
The air was filled with excitement as the lefty who is employed as an engineer became the fourth member of the perfection club.
With the accomplishment comes well-deserve recognition and Robles will receive $300 each from the PBA and the Saipan Bowling Association.
