Cultural heritage art exhibit opening moved to Sept. 12
The Cultural Heritage and Arts Pasifika Exhibits grand opening has been moved to Sept. 12 from its original grand opening this Friday.
Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture coordinator Sinforosa C. Pinaula said the postponement is due to a death of an Arts Council staff. The funeral will be held this Friday. She said those who still want to submit their artworks are invited to forward their masterpieces until Friday. The council’s office is open from 8am to 4:30pm.
Local artists, art enthusiasts, and collectors are encouraged to participate in this year’s Cultural Heritage and Arts Pasifika Exhibits, which will run from Sept. 12 through Oct. 28 after a one-year absence in the CNMI.
Pinaula said all interested artists and collectors for both Carolinian and Chamorro crafts and Pacific artworks are asked to submit or forward their entries to be sold or displayed during the exhibition.
Pinaula said the CNMI Cultural Heritage Exhibit would feature traditional Carolinian and Chamorro crafts as part of the CNMI-wide Cultural Heritage Month celebration, also in September. The Arts Pasifika segment will feature artworks from places like Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Fiji, Australia, and other Pacific island nations.
The exhibit was cancelled last year, said Pinaula, due to Typhoon Chaba. She said the Emergency Management Office used the Arts Council gallery as its extension office during the typhoon.
The gallery for the cultural exhibit will be open Mondays through Fridays, from 8am to 4pm only. The gallery is also open during Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. Interested individuals may contact the Arts Council at 322-9982 or 322-9983.
