Rotary postpones games, Bud Cup may follow
With Tropical Storm Nabi threatening the Commonwealth, officials of the Saipan Rotary Summer Youth Basketball League decided to postpone and reschedule games yesterday.
According to Elias Rangamar, yesterday’s bouts featuring the Garapan Rollers II and Bwibwiis in the opener and G-Rollers III and Chalan Kanoa Saints will be rescheduled due to leaks on the roof of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Rangamar said that if the wet weather continues and if Tropical Storm Nabi continues to threaten the NMI, games scheduled for today may also be postponed. The game of the week featuring undefeated teams Southern Sonics and G-Rollers I may also be postponed on Thursday depending on the weather.
Rangamar, who also sits on the board of the Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, also explained that the games scheduled for tonight in the 2005 Budweiser Cup BANMI Island-wide Men’s Basketball League will most likely be postponed as well.
At 4pm yesterday, the Emergency Management Office and the National Weather Service on Guam indicated that Tropical Storm Nabi was located at 225 mile east of Saipan and is moving west at 13 miles per hour. The storm is expected to maintain its current speed with a gradual turn toward the north-northwest.
Maximum sustained winds are 50 miles per hour and, according to EMO, the storm was expected to possibly become a typhoon last night.
