PSS’ Standards, Benchmarks website up
The Public School System’s Standards and Benchmarks website is finally completed and is now open to the public for viewing, especially for CNMI teachers.
Education associate commissioner for curriculum and instruction Rita Sablan presented to members of the Board of Education and guests yesterday afternoon the website during the regular BOE monthly meeting at the PSS office in Capitol Hill.
Sablan said the website was developed in April this year and was finished on July 30. She said anybody can view the website; even parents can check it so they will know what’s going on with the education system in the CNMI.
She encouraged teachers to take time and browse the pages designed specifically for them.
PSS said the website was developed for the teachers and staff of the CNMI Public School System as a tool for teaching and preparing lesson plans using the established K-12 Standards and Benchmarks.
Sablan said teachers and other visitors would find all the information they need by browsing or searching through the database of standards and benchmarks. There are also links to “PSS approved sites” that would provide them with resources for preparing teachers’ lessons, she said.
Sablan said a discussion forum box is also available for teachers and staff to make comments, suggestions or ask questions and give answers to fellow teachers and staff. It also has a search engine where visitors can search for any information related to the standards and benchmarks.
The website also provides explanation about the standards and benchmarks and basic Information related to them. The standards represent the fundamental knowledge and skills that all educated citizens should have and be able to use, according to the website.
The site also gives valuable information to students.
The website address is www.pss.cnmi.mp/standards.
Sablan said standards and benchmarks for Physical Education, Arts and Technology is currently in the works and will soon be uploaded to the website as soon as the board approves the content of its web pages.
