Sailor to be awarded Bronze Star
SANTA RITA, Guam—A sailor with Military Sealift Command, Guam will be awarded the Bronze Star Medal on Sept. 6, 2:30pm at the unit’s compound on Naval Base Guam.
The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to people who distinguished themselves by heroic, meritorious achievement or service in connection with military operations against an armed enemy or opposing armed force.
Lt. Bryan Boudreaux, a supply officer with MSCO, will be awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service conducted during Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2004 to April 2005.
Boudreaux put his life directly in harm’s way to protect a fellow serviceman during the rocket attack on the U.S. Embassy, Baghdad, Iraq Jan. 29. He threw himself on top of a co-worker to protect him from harm after the blast. He went on to administer life-saving first aid to other injured personnel.
While continually exposed to attacks from hostile insurgent mortar and rocket attacks, Boudreaux demonstrated exceptional knowledge and resourceful expertise in sustaining the $18.6 billion that was apportioned by the U.S. Congress for Rebuilding Iraq.
The heroic act that Boudreaux performed in administering first aid and to ensure the safety of those personnel that were injured is a true act of heroism.
MSCO’s mission is to provide comprehensive operational, logistic, maintenance and administrative support to all Military Sealift Command owned, operated and contracted vessels and the associated crews in the Western Pacific. (PR)
