The United Filipino Organization said it would continue with its tradition of renovating the Civic Center court in hopes of providing a venue for members of the community to engage in sports activities.

UFO president Roland Pamintuan confirmed this yesterday. The UFO head also volunteered that this year’s project includes rehabilitating and the construction of concrete bleachers, which will replace the bleachers that were damaged by Supertyphoon Chaba last year.

The group will also rehabilitate the concrete pavement and paint the court so that it won’t be slippery when being used.

Pamintuan also indicated that if funding allows, a committee box would be constructed. The officials box was constructed in the past, however, was damaged by several typhoons.

“This is an annual commitment since 2,000,” Pamintuan said during an interview. “We use to have our leagues there at that court, so we decided to renovate it every year as a contribution to the community and promoting sports.”

Pamintuan said the UFO will begin its project this Saturday and will continue to work on renovating the venue every weekend until the project is completed.

The site will also serve as the main venue for the championship games of the upcoming Back 2 School Street Basketball Jam on Sept. 24. The UFO co-sponsors the event along with the Division of Public Health, Community Guidance Center, Division of Sports and Recreation, Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Gatorade-Pacific Trading Co.
