Doing the right thing

During these hard economic times here in the CNMI, the people of the Northern Mariana Islands should come to the rescue and understand that it’s their turn now to assist their government through mutual understanding, cooperation, support, and positive attitude of moving forward.

There’s no doubt that the heat of politics is taking its toll inside the kitchen. Everybody’s after everybody. Nobody wants to be wrong. Everybody wants to be right. The selfish attitude to deny what is good and right is no different from words coming out of a mouth and not directly from the heart. There are many reasons and excuses that one could make. But actions will always speak louder than words.

Let’s go into intermission and remove politics away from the surcharge issue facing CUC these days. Let’s support Governor Babauta’s implementation of the surcharge, not because he’s right or wrong, but because it’s the right thing to do for the common good of our people now and in the future. The surcharge issue is here at the blessed right time. It will continue to be here whether we like it or not.

My best friend once told me, “If I can spend my money on gambling, alcohol, cigarette, and the night club, then there’s no reason why I cannot pay the surcharge on my CUC bill.”

Gov. Juan N. Babauta and Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente are doing the right thing for the CNMI now and in the future. The bold leadership of these two gentlemen represents the bold leadership of the BB Team. No matter how we put it, calculate it, say it, look at it, or envision it, the BB Team is still the superpower of politics today and will be on Election Day.
