From May to August this year, the CNMI government has reportedly saved $333,745 in energy consumption.

In the latest information released, the Governor’s Office said that the entire Executive Branch saved $87,452 since the implementation of the Energy Conservation Initiative in May.

It said that the Department of Corrections posted the biggest month-to-month savings of $5,223.

Except for the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Lands and Natural Resources, all executive branch offices have reduced energy use, it said.

The judicial branch saved $20,736 while the Legislature saved $2,789.

Among independent agencies, Public School System posted $215,580 in savings.

Meantime, the CNMI Energy Office has began conducting training for the energy conservation point people from each department to promote further decline in energy use.

The Office held its seminar for Saipan on Sept. 9.

Training for Rota and Tinian energy contact people will take place in mid-October.

These trained “energy specialists” totaling 30 are responsible for lowering energy expenditure in their offices.

Meantime, Gov. Juan N. Babauta, in his remarks during a press briefing Thursday, encouraged both public and private offices and households to continue to cut their electricity use and cut their bills accordingly.

“Every dollar we save on electricity is a dollar that stays in the Commonwealth economy,” he said.
