Poker arcade falls victim to a robber
A gun-wielding man robbed a poker establishment of cash collections totaling some $7,000, police said yesterday.
Police said the robbery occurred at the Lucky 7 Poker in Susupe early Wednesday morning.
Department of Public Safety spokesperson Catherine Sheu said the suspect also took the establishment’s telephone unit as he fled the scene.
It remained unclear yesterday if police have already ascertained the suspect’s identity.
But Sheu said in a brief statement to the media that Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives are now diligently working on the case. She said the suspect has yet to be arrested.
Citing results of a preliminary investigation, Sheu said the suspect entered the establishment early morning Wednesday and stole cash and the telephone unit from the cashier’s booth at gunpoint. No one was injured in the incident, she added.
The heist occurred less than a month after a security guard robbed another poker establishment, Fun and Games in western Garapan, of cash amounting to some $27,735.50.
But Thief Apprehension Select Coalition operatives botched an attempt by security guard Alexander Cana to leave the CNMI, swooping down on his hideout the night before his scheduled flight to Manila.
Cana, who was supposed to watch over Fun and Games, allegedly forced the cashier into the poker arcade’s restroom and locked her up, before taking cash collections from the cashier’s booth.
Robbery charges have been filed at the Superior Court against the security guard, who denied committing the offenses.
