Carolinian, Indigenous Affairs offices to get $7K
Gov. Juan N. Babauta signed into law last week a bill that appropriates $7,000 to the cultural and heritage activities of the Carolinian Affairs Office and the Indigenous Affairs Office.
House Bill No. 14-64, D1 provides $3,500 for both offices’ cultural heritage activities as provided by Section 3(b) of Public Law 11-64.
Babauta said the new law would also appropriate funds to finance the programs and activities of the 12th Annual Chamorro and Carolinian Cultural Heritage festival. Incidentally, the Cultural Heritage Month held its culminating activities last Saturday.
Also last week, a dedication ceremony was held with Babauta leading the official turnover to CAO of adjacent lots to the Chamolinian Cultural Village.
CAO executive assistant Victorino Igitol earlier said he is “very ecstatic” over the granting of their request, which would now allow them to expand CAO and the Chamolinian Cultural Village. One of the lots is the former Head Start area in Garapan.
The governor congratulated CAO and commended Igitol’s continued efforts to preserve the Carolinian culture. He said the turnover of the two lots mark a historic event for the Carolinian community.
The expansion of the property, he said, would also serve as his administration’s cultural legacy. Babauta said the extension would provide an opportunity for CAO to develop the designated lots to facilities that would promote Carolinian culture and tradition.
