Pogey Points was true to its name and took home top honors in the 16th season of the PBA-CBC Friday Night League. The word “Pogey” is slang for good looking in Filipino.

Pogey Points members Nelson Degala, Ronald Epan, Efren Cacdac, Arnel Baustista, Arnel Del Rosario, Efren Taburnal, Celso Agui, Dan Aguilar, and team captain Mike Guirey took home the coveted championship trophy in the league’s awards ceremony held the other night at the Capital Bowling Center.

Guirey said Pogey Points’ success was because of teamwork and all his players always trying to play their best game in and game out.

He also said that team chemistry was nurtured by adopting a no-blaming rule among the players and a mentality that win or lose they would always support each other.

Despite winning the league in almost blowout fashion, Guirey admitted that Pogey Points had a rough time against a couple of teams, namely GPPC, Inc. and Rajamsbelle. He said their encounter with Rajamsbelle was one of the toughest of the season, while they played catch up most of the time against GPPC.

Pogey Points won more than 65 percent of its matches and ended the season with a 63-33 win-loss record. Finishing a far second was Cooking Gas, which wound up with a 59-37 slate, followed by the 54.5-41.5 posted by Philippine Consulate General.

The bowlers from Nauru Building actually finished tied with GPPC but took third place because they defeated the engineering firm in their one-on-one match-up.

Making up the rest of the participating teams were UIC, Pure (H20), 8 Gam3ler/GEC Pawnshop, Ambyth, Rajamsbelle, Verizon Reload, OML, 3J & Co., Verizon Star Cruizer, White Coconut Computer, Bagets, and Mach 3 Power.

In the team special awards, Cooking Gas lorded it over the field sweeping all four categories.

Cooking Gas finished first in the High Game Scratch after rolling 1,059 pinfalls, which was six pinfalls higher than the 1,053 of UIC. Cooking Gas also took home the handicap version of the category, knocking down 1,151 pins compared to the 1,136 pins scored by runner-up Rajamsbelle.

The High Series Scratch and High Series Scratch with Handicap also belonged to Cooking Gas after it finished with 3,003 and 3,261 pinfalls, respectively. UIC finished second in the High Series Scratch with 2,914, while Pogey Points earned its only team award after rolling 3,255 in the category’s handicap version.

The 16th season of the PBA-CBC Friday Night League was organized by the Philippine Bowling Association and Capital Bowling Center. Results were made available by league secretary Rene Cabigao.
