NMA sets Cross Country, Island Relay
The Northern Marianas Athletics announced Thursday that it will host the 2005 All Schools Cross Country Championships on Nov. 12 at the Commonwealth Ports Authority Airport Field.
The sports body also encourages all schools interested in participating in the event to start assembling competitors.
Boys and girls will be divided into 9-and-under, 11-and-under, 13-and-under, 18-and-under age groups and compete for the trophies and medals associated with winning the endurance title.
According to the NMA, children in the 9-and-under and 11-and-under age groups will run one mile, while those in the 13-and-under and 18-and-under will leg-out 2.1 miles.
Registration begins at 3:30pm with the first race expected to get underway at 4pm. Participants are advised to get there as early as possible for warm-ups and stretching prior to the event.
Meanwhile, the NMA also announced that it will host the 24th Annual Christmas Island Relay on Dec. 31.
The 13.7-mile relay is scheduled to begin at 5:30am at the Pacific Islands Club south parking lot and will end at the Last Command Post in Marpi. Registration begins at 5am.
Each team, which consists of five members, must switch runners every mile. It is also required that each team has at least one female participant or a participant who is under the age of 16 or in the senior division. Prior to competing, all teams must pay a fee of $25.
Individuals determined to run the course as a soloist can do so at a fee of $10.
