Brilliant Star Int’l Week ends with dance moves
The Brilliant Star Montessori ended its weeklong celebration of the International Week yesterday with parents and their children dressing up in the native costumes of various countries.
Program coordinator Trish Copeland said the school preferred to celebrate International Day yesterday rather than observe Halloween for a unique and fun event.
Seventy-eight children ranging from 18 months to nine years old gathered at the Brilliant Star grounds yesterday morning dressed in beautiful national costumes. Some of the parents were also clad in spectacular outfits that complemented their children’s costumes.
Copeland said that during the weeklong celebration, parents conducted presentations in the school about their native country or any country that they want the children to know. She said the parents’ cooperation was superb and they deserve acknowledgments for their support. The culminating activity also included a parade within the school campus.
“The activity aimed to provide a global understanding for the children,” she said.
Yesterday’s event also featured dance numbers from the children depicting Cambodian, Hawaiian and Cook Islands traditional dances. Ed Johnson and his wife Melia also provided entertainment to the big crowd.
The Alana’ia Dance Troupe showcased traditional Polynesian dance routines and held a crash course on island-style dance moves for the children, who all stood up and tried the dance steps themselves.
Johnson, whose child is also studying in the school, said he featured the dance group as his family’s contribution to the International Week celebration.
