Democrat Party ends campaign
The Democratic Party has ended its formal political campaigns and is now just awaiting the Nov. 5 elections.
The party’s final political rally was held Sunday at the fishing base in Garapan across Kristo Rai church.
“The last day of activities was yesterday. Everything is finished. We’re just waiting for the election,” said Democratic Party standard bearer Froilan C. Tenorio yesterday.
Tenorio, who served as governor from 1994 to 1998, is seeking another term this year. He is running with Antonio A. Santos as his lieutenant governor.
Tenorio earlier expressed confidence that Santos, whom he described as a loyal Democrat, would bring unity to the party.
In the early days, he said that the party was divided between those identified with former governor Carlos Camacho and those aligned with former mayor Gregorio Sablan.
Tenorio was associated with the Sablan faction, while Santos was with the Camacho group.
Santos comes from the education sector, being a teacher and principal at various schools in Guam and on Saipan in the past 40 years.
The Tenorio-Santos tandem promises to put an end to the fuel surcharge and reinstate the Earned Income Credit.
Tenorio also believes that if elected, he would be able to bring in more new investors to the CNMI.
The former governor said he is proud of his track record, citing that the CNMI economy was at its best shape during his term.
