Federated States of Micronesia vice president Redley Killion is expected to arrive today on Saipan to attend the FSM National Day celebration on island.

FSM Consul General Sam Pretrick said that Killion will be the guest speaker in today’s gathering, which commemorates the 19th National Day of FSM. FSM was founded on Nov. 3, 1986.

The celebration will be held from 10am to 4pm at Garapan Central Park. Pretrick said local government officials have been invited to the event.

Pretrick said the FSM celebration also aims to foster unity among its nationals and to promote cooperation with the host government. “We’re very appreciative of the CNMI for being a good host to our people,” he said.

He also called on FSM nationals “to continue to be a positive influence in the CNMI.” There are about 4,000 FSM nationals in the CNMI. They are originally from Ponhpei, Chuuk, Kosrae, and Yap.

Patrick said he is excited to celebrate the National Day this year on Saipan since it is the first time that it will be held here. In previous years, he said, FSM National Day events were held in Guam.
