Sixers I wins in blowout fashion
The San Antonio Sixers I showed they are ready for the playoffs, as the team had no trouble routing the young Hoops, 105-53, as action in the ongoing 2005 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League continued Wednesday evening at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The Sixers dominated from the opening tip off as Richard Magcalas drilled in 10 points to give his team the early lead. Magcalas relaxed a bit but the rest of the Sixers crew picked up the slack and made the scorekeepers work as they torched the net for 53 points while holding Hoops to 31 points in the first half.
It was all Sixers from there as the team showed no mercy and continued to put on a show. The team added another 52 points to their corner before resting with a 52-point victory margin.
Meanwhile, official Mario Sablan disclosed that the league would feature a single-elimination playoff format beginning this Monday.
Out of the 13 teams, only eight will advance to further their push for the coveted crown.
Already securing the top two spots are pennant champions Garapan Rollers 1 and Southern Sonics, as the G-I crew cruised to a perfect 12-0 card, while Southern are currently 10-1. The team closes it regular season against G-Rollers III today.
Others who are assured slots in the playoffs are the San Antonio Sixers I, San Antonio, Chalan Kanoa Saints, Toyota Camry-Ol’Aces, Matansa Sparks, and Garapan Rollers II.
According to Sablan, the G-I squad will battle the No. 8 seed to open the playoffs on Monday. The Sonics will then play No. 7 and No. 3 takes on No. 6 on Tuesday, while No. 4 squares off against No. 5 on Wednesday.
Teams who put up respectable charges but fell short were the Sixers II, Capitol Hill Breeze, G-III, Hoops, and Bwibwiis
The teams successful in their push will advance to the semifinals.
