GOP: We’re sure of victory
Citing an “overwhelming support” from the voters, the ruling Republican Party predicted yesterday “a landslide victory” in tomorrow’s general elections.
“We’re way ahead of the others. There’s no question about that,” said GOP chair John S. Reyes yesterday.
“It’s going to be another landslide. It’s a landslide. We’re very sure of it,” said Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary and gubernatorial first-cousin Juan L. Babauta.
Reyes declined to confirm about an “in-house” survey reportedly conducted by a group from the University of Guam, but GOP sources yesterday said that the result of the survey “boosted our confidence about this election.”
“The result is it’s Babauta-Benavente again for another four years,” said a source.
Another party insider said it was not released because it also contains crucial information about the opponents.
“It’s meant for in-house use. The important thing there is it confirms the people’s choice for BB,” said the supporter.
The GOP held its final hand waving and dinner gathering at the Garapan fishing base grounds across Kristo Rai church yesterday.
Meantime, Reyes said that several respected members of the community have expressed support for the Babauta-Benavente ticket.
“People know that it’s still the incumbent governor and lieutenant governor that can make a difference in people’s lives in the Commonwealth for another four years. That’s the real score,” said Reyes.
Reyes said that the Republican Party also has the support of various ethnic groups, including the Palauan community. He said the Palauan Association showed an overwhelming support during a meeting the past weekend.
Former Covenant Party congresswoman Malua Peter attended yesterday’s GOP political rally in Garapan. “I’m supporting GOP,” she said.
Her husband, David K. Peter, is running for the mayoralty post for the Northern Islands under the Republican Party.
