The 6th Annual UFO Inter-Organizational Basketball League has scheduled two sets of doubleheaders today and tomorrow at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The weekend’s first game will see Cavite-Country House taking on 287 Club-McDonald’s beginning at 5:30pm. The second game, set at around 7:30pm, would then have Bayani-HBR International squaring off against MDX-Amateur Radio Club-Armatech at 7:30pm.

In the opener, Cavite is expected to get firepower from 2003 playoffs MVP Banjo Basila and Dayrit cousins—Bogs and Joy. 287 Club, for its part, will counter with Michael and Joseph Achas and the veteran trio of Larry Lizo, Ariel Jinang, and Ferdie Tobias.

Bayani has a number of surprises up its sleeves in the second game, as point forward Richard Tan revealed that the team has a couple of very good 6’3” players on its fold. MDX, on the other hand, will rely on the promising duo of Marlon De Dios and Jolan Mendoza and veterans Richard Pambid and Martin Moreno.

The UFO cagefest resumes on Sunday at 3:30pm with newcomer BIBAK-Island Card fielding a mystery lineup opposite the tried-and-tested LIPS-Mobil squad, which is spearheaded by Andres “Jhun” Estolas Jr., Melvin Villarin, Kevin Cequena, and Rowell Aranda.

Past champion SIP-Flor takes the floor against SMF-Shell in the 5:30pm second game. Fresh from its championship run in the MDX league, the team will be led by Jason Amado, Elmer Esdrelon, Edsel Mendoza, and Junar Guiab. Holdovers Leo Itaas, Sonny Lerio, Gary Cayetano, and Ruther Demegillio, meanwhile, are expected to carry the fight for SMF.

The 2005 season of the UFO Inter-Organizational Basketball League is sponsored by Budweiser, Bud Light, and Coca-Cola. For more information about this weekend’s schedule, contact UFO president Roland Pamintuan at 287-7864.
