Got Beer? still on top, Sugoi Seven still on bottom
Not much has changed in the 7th Annual Miller Lite Coed Four-Person Beach Volleyball League after another night of action at the Pacific Islands Club as Jon Cramer’s Got Beer? renewed its lease in the first place penthouse with a win over the Grace Christian Academy Eagles on Thursday, while Catherine Perino’s sand savvy servers in Sugoi Seven suffered their seventh defeat in a row to Palaksi.
Got Beer? took two of three from the Eagles in a closely contested match that required a third set, but the top team from the southside skunked GCA with an 11-0 thumping in the clincher.
The Eagles weren’t the only school team that took one on the nose as the mighty Dolphins from Marianas High School fell to the pummeling powers of Pugua Time! despite taking the first set, 14-12.
Captain Taula Peter wasn’t worried as his Pugua crew rebounded to take the next two sets 11-6 and 11-8 to creep into the playoff chase in the eight spot at 4-3, while the Dolphins slipped to 1-6.
America F@#& Yeah! maintained their place atop the standings at 6-1 in a hard fought game against Lick It, Stick It, Smack It that went down to the wire, as Mark McDonald debuted his new shockingly bright hair style in the closest match of the night.
Looking like Doc Brown from Back to the Future, McDonald’s infusion of 1.21 gigawats (Great Scott!) was enough to edge Rachel Bandelin’s squad in the first set, 11-9, but the tables were turned in the second as Lick It, Stick It, Smack It evened the count at one apiece with an 11-9 win.
There was more of the same power-packed action in the final set as the liberators pulled out an 11-8 win with Dale Roberts commenting from the sidelines. When the contest was complete, Roberts donned his game face and led You’re My Boy Blue! to its fourth win of the season over a competitive Aschaabw squad.
Despite losing by a total score of 33-11, Dustin Rhode and his team of tenacious tumblers put forth a strong showing in their fifth loss of the season. That was not the case for the Sugoi Seven as they were blanked 11-0 in the first set against Rannel Calexterio and the punishing pounders of Palaksi.
It didn’t get any better as their nameless set-man was sleeping at the net in their 11-4 loss in the second set. Perino pounced on the problem before the third set by placing Julie “the Intimidator” Schimpf at the net, and thought the Seven tallied seven, they were unable to fend off the broom by losing the third set, 11-7.
