Two weeks are all that separates the international field of swimmers, bikers, and runners from the one of the most physically challenging events in the Commonwealth, and while many multisport enthusiasts are prepping for the upcoming Rota Blue Triathlon, others view the race as the first step to qualifying for the 2006 Micronesian Games next summer.

According to organizers of the Northern Mariana Islands Triathlon Federation, the 1.5-kilometer ocean swim, 40-km rolling hills bike ride, and a 10km run of the Rota race is one of three events that will determine the CNMI’s competitors for the home town hosting of the Games.

Recently, the NMITF awarded rookie racers Shan Seman and Brenda Schultz with free entry into the event compliments of the KFC Triathlon for their efforts in the 2005 Enticer Series. All the dynamic duo need to do is secure roundtrip airfare and accommodations for the Saturday, Nov. 19, race.

Once again the KFC Triathlon Club will be hosting the Rota Blue Olympic Distance Triathlon in association with the MVA, and this year they will continue to offer the Half Ironman distance race consisting of a 2-km swim, 90-km bike, and 21.1-km half marathon.

The fee for the Rota Blue Triathlon is $80, and registration is possible through Onishi-san at KFC triathlon via email to kfc-onishi@gem.hi-ho-ne.jp. For more information about the race, contact Frank Tudela at the MVA by calling 664-3210 or visit http://www.gem.hi-ho.ne.jp/kfc-onishi%20/.
