2005 Education Day contest winners named
Culminating CNMI Education Month for November, the Public School System gathered more than 1,000 employees, teachers, aides and administrators a day before Thanksgiving at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort in Kagman.
Apart from the much-coveted Teacher of the Year awards ceremony, the PSS also gave away several contest prizes for all the students who participated in the monthlong celebration.
For the theme contest, Kagman Elementary School fifth grader Patrick Camacho won first place with his entry “Education: Imagine All the Endless Possibilities,” while Oleai Elementary School sixth grader Candelaria Wabol ranked second with her entry “Education: Meeting Challenges Experiencing Success!” and sixth grade student Austin Delos Santos of Tanapag Elementary School bagged third place with his entry “Education: The Heart of Life.”
Logo Contest winners were Hopwood Junior High School seventh grader Jaynine Parico followed by Chacha Oceanview Junior High School sixth grader Chavez C. Kaneshi, and Rota Junior High School eighth grader Aleton Mesngon.
PSS also gathered entries for the 2005 Education Day Essay Writing Contest both for elementary and secondary levels. For the elementary level, sixth grade student Austin Delos Santos from Tanapag Elementary School bagged first place. San Vicente Elementary School sixth grade student Gilson Mercado took second place, while Chauncy Calvo, a sixth grade student of Rota Junior High School, bagged the third place.
The Essay Contest for the secondary level was won by Marianas High School’s ninth grade student Sam Joyner. Albert Manglona, a ninth grade of Rota Junior High School ranked second, while Saipan Southern High School ninth grade student Miracle Villones went home with the third prize.
Judges for the competitions were Alex Rangamar, Cathleen Yamagata, Ted Antiqueno, Bobby Baldazo, Edison Combalecer, Cathy Sawer, Amy Milagroso, Mark Hocog, Melody Actouka and Barry Wickson.
