The Public School System is mulling a plan to allow retiring teachers to teach again, albeit only in a substitute capacity.

The issue was brought up during the special Board of Education meeting held at the PSS office in Capitol Hill a couple of weeks ago.

Commissioner of Education Rita H. Inos presided over the meeting, which explored contingencies for the expected teacher shortages that would be brought about once a considerable number of teachers retire next month.

PSS associate commissioner for administrative services David M. Borja confirmed that the board had discussed the plan.

“But this time there will be a different meaning to their employment,” said Borja.

Borja said the retiring teachers could only come back as substitutes and understandably will not have the same compensation they had when they were full-time teachers.

A total of 61 PSS employees, which are made up of teachers, counselors, and administrators, are retiring this December and they are the following: Rosie Herrera, Thomas Hourican, Elaine Perez, Narian Sikyang, Gloria Andres, Susan Babauta, David Benavente, Akemi Besebes, Salomae Calvo, Hiram Castro, Joseph Connolly, Rosita Crisostimo, Teodosia Davis, Kenson Ezekiah, Diana Faisao, James feger, Tita Hocog, and Davinia Ibarra.

Escolastica Iguel, Mystica Kaipat, Osaky Keller, Ana Lizama, Ronald Mandel, Christiana Michael, Juana Ngiraidong, Helen Pangelinan, Sapuro Rayphand, Maria Salas, Elia Sonoda, Mercedes Taisacan, Ramona Taro, Bobby Winkfield, Wendy Wolcott, Merly Yamazaki, Michael Sanchez, Joseph Carothers, and Richard Rosokow also make the lost.

Other retirees are Carl Halstrom, Ana Baer, Lucy Manglona, Jesus Agulto, Roman Agulto, Carmen Atalig, George Ayuyu, Manuela Babauta, Joseph Borja, Leonara Castro, Marcela Evangelista, Yvonne Manglona, Matthew Ooka, Cynthia Pushparaj, Gregorio Sablan, Mira Sablan, Joseph Sablan, Herman Santos, Tobed Smith, Luis Taimanao, Jesus Taitano, Juanita Villagomez, Augustin Castro, and James Denight.
