Turncoats flocking to Ben&Tim camp?
Political turncoats have been flocking to the Fitial-Villagomez camp since the Covenant Party’s tandem claimed victory on Nov. 19, according to a party member.
Charles Reyes Jr., spokesperson of the House leadership headed by Speaker and governor-elect Benigno R. Fitial, said people that the Covenant Party had not seen during the campaign period were showing up at meetings of the incoming administration.
“Some people are changing colors very quickly,” Reyes said without mentioning any names.
He maintained, however, that the development was not entirely a bad thing.
“We’re trying to be inclusive. We certainly welcome anyone with good ideas. There is a feeling of magnanimity within the party. We want to be gracious about our victory. We are extending our branches,” Reyes said.
Fitial’s group has already formed a committee that will work with officials of the administration of outgoing Gov. Juan N. Babauta in relation to the transition of power.
Reyes refused to disclose the individuals that will head each committee, saying that there may still be some changes to the current listing.
The transition committee will be visiting each department or agency under the Executive Branch to check its status and to prepare the incoming leadership for takeover.
Fitial and lieutenant governor-elect Timothy P. Villagomez were declared winners of this year’s four-way gubernatorial contest on Nov. 19. They received 28 percent of the total votes cast.
The new leaders will begin their four-year term on Jan. 9, 2006.
