Japan-Marianas Tourism Club holds yearend meeting on Saipan
Last Nov. 24, 2005 the Marianas Visitors Authority hosted the bi-annual meeting of the Japan Marianas Tourism Club held at the Saipan World Resort.
A delegation of 12 executives from major travel companies in Japan met with the MVA last Thursday to discuss issues and concerns affecting the CNMI.
Together with the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Transportation Security Administration, the MVA updated members of the JMTC on issues with regard to hotel educational programs for staff, hotel improvements as well as new airport security procedures and policy.
Also part of the event’s agenda was a Power Point presentation lead by Chuck Jordan of the Capital Improvement Projects Office along with Robert Schwalbach of the Governor’s Office and Mary Lou Ada of the Commonwealth Development Authority. The presentation outlined recently completed projects, current and future development in line with the Garapan revitalization plan.
The highlight of the presentation was the announcement of the Garapan Development Project, which sets out to redevelop the areas in and around the lower housing district and the Garapan Elementary School. The new plans would include such things as a cinema, restaurants, shops, convention center, condominiums, and a new school, visually enhancing the image of Garapan and increasing the property’s value.
The JMTC, formed in 1998, consist of top travel wholesalers from Japan. The presidents and travel managers meet twice a year with the MVA to discuss issues on marketing the CNMI. The JMTC participants include Holiday Tours Micronesia, Nippon Travel Agency, Pacific Micronesian Tours, R&C Tours, Northwest Airlines, and Continental Airlines. (PR)
