Continental Micronesia has begun a temporary embargo on excess baggage for flights to and from certain islands.

The temporary embargo, which applies to flights to and from Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae, Kwajalein, and Majuro, will take effect until Dec. 31, as Continental expects heavy load during the holiday travel period.

In a media release, Continental said the embargo would apply to all excess baggage, including oversized, overweight, and extra pieces.

“Continental Airlines has implemented this embargo to insure all customers traveling during the holiday period have the ability to check normal allowable baggage on the flights,” the airline’s media statement read.

“However, baggage within the customer’s free piece allowance, weighing between 51 and 70 pounds, will be accepted upon payment of a fee of US $25,” it added.
