RGA Club Champion tournament on Dec. 10
All is set for the crowning of the 2005 overall champion, as the Refalawasch Golf Association will hold its yearend Club Champion Tournament on Dec. 10.
This according to RGA president Jess Wabol, who disclosed earlier in the week that the season-ending tournament will either be held at the Kingfisher Golf Links or the Laolao Bay Gold Resort and will require a fee of $100 from all interested golfers. The fee includes green fee, tournament fee, and a banquet to be held at the Hyatt Regency Saipan later in the evening.
The coveted RGA Club Champion title can only be won by the 12 players who took home monthly Ace plums throughout the year. All 12 monthly winners will be presented trophies at the banquet.
Wabol said the player with the lowest average net will be recognized with a shiny hardware, while the player who hit the links for the most rounds of golf this year will be presented the Sid K. Peter Special Award.
Last year, Mario Taitano emerged victorious after edging Wabol to take the title via scorecard tiebreaker.
Meanwhile, Wabol capped the list of monthly winners after brining his A game to the course and adding another shiny moment to his long list of accomplishments by topping the RGA December Ace of the Month Tournament last Saturday.
Wabol swung with perfection and showcased his gentle touch on the green with his putts to top the elite field with a gross score of 3-under 69. His three-handicap resulted in his score dropping even lower to a tournament-best 66.
Right behind Wabol was fellow veteran Joji Taguchi, who fired an even par 72 and finished with a 68 courtesy of a four-handicap.
Norman Tenorio rounded up the top three after heading to the clubhouse with a gross score of 13-over 85. Tenorio, however, had a bunch of strokes taken off his score and finished with a net score of 69 after his 16-handicap came into play.
Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho and Louie Tilipao were also recognized for their target shooting as they won the closest to the pin competition.
Others who competed in the tournament with their net scores in parenthesis include Alex Aquinigoc (71), Jordan Kosap (71), Sasaki Oliver (72), Joe Wabol (74), Sonny Flores (75), John Rebeunog (76), Tony Satur (76), and John Mettao (78).
Also, the banquet after the Club Champion tourney will also serve as venue for members to elect officers for 2006.
“I encourage all members to come and vote,” Wabol said.
