A welcome retreat to what is dubbed “The Oriental Paris” was experienced by 11 of Saipan’s hardworking men and women during a three-day, two-night package tour of Shanghai arranged by Century Travel Agency Inc. last Nov. 12 to 14.

Century’s Jie Zhou served as ever-patient tour guide to Ariel Mariano, Ruby Fortaleza, Elna Curate, Lani Matillano, Judith Salao, Rodimer Roque, Dr. and Mrs. Lim, and a couple who requested that what happens in Shanghai stays in Shanghai.

The sightseeing trip to the Middle Kingdom’s former gateway to the West saw the 11 visit popular landmarks like The Bund, Yuyuan Gardens, and People’s Park. They also did a lot of shopping and took advantage of the mighty dollar’s favorable exchange rate by spending to their hearts’ content on stores along Nanjing Road.

The transplanted “islanders” also got a taste of sports racing by watching Formula F4 racing at the outskirts of Shanghai.
