Typhoons hold off Cyclones, 11-10
The Typhoons erupted early and fought off a rally from the Cyclones to post an 11-10 victory as action in the ongoing 2005 SML Masters Baseball League continued Saturday at the Kan Pacific Baseball Field.
The Typhoons wasted not time and unleashed a furious charge in the top of the first inning to jump ahead. Robert Lizama drew a lead-off walk, Leo Bobai singled, Paul Camacho doubled, Randal Aguon singled, Dave Kapileo busted out a triple, and Mel Teregeyo had a base hit as the Typhoons busted out the whopping stick for five runs.
The Typhoons were not done by a long shot as they added another two runs in the bottom half of the inning, 7-0. Aguon tripled and scored, and Kapileo bruised the ball for a double before crossing home plate on a single by Teregeyo.
The Cyclones, however, weren’t rattled and were able to respond with an eruption of their own. After being scoreless for the first two innings, the squad came surging back in the third inning and pulled even. Pepe Tenorio was hit by a pitch to reach base, Ben Mesa singled, Mel Sakisat drew a base on balls, Tony Camacho and Manny Tenorio hit consecutive singles, Mike Muna broke out a double, and Dennis Renguul, Fernando Camacho, and Franklin Cruz walked before Pepe capped the rally with a single.
By the time the Cyclones were called for their third out, they had erased the deficit as the game was tied at 7-7.
The Typhoons then regained the lead as Bobai, Ivan Igitol, and Paul Camacho all singled and scored to swing favor back to their corner, 10-7.
The Cyclones were still in it, though, as Sakisat drew another base on balls in the next inning and Tony Camacho smacked a run-scoring double to cut the deficit to two runs, 8-10.
With their never-say-die attitude, the Cyclones managed to pull even again as they added another two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sakisat continued to have a good day at the plate as he doubled, stole third, and pulled his team closer by stealing home, 9-10. Camacho, who singled, knotted the score, 10-10, when he trotted home on a wild pitch.
The Typhoons then got help from the Cyclones defense, which committed an error that resulted in Al Taitano reaching safely in the top of the seventh inning. The error proved to be huge as Lizama and Bobai singled, and Taitano crossed home plate before the third out was called for the one-run advantage.
The Cyclones still had a shot at forcing extra innings after Pepe reached on a two-out single. Mesa, however, was called out on strikes to end the game.
Kapileo was perfect at the plate and led the Typhoons, going 4-for-4 with two singles, a double, a triple, and two runs scored. Bobai and Aguon both went 3-for-5 with two runs apiece, while Camacho, Teregeyo, and Igitol each had two hits.
Tony Camacho led the Cyclones with three hits in four chances. He also had a double, two runs, and two sloten bases while Pepe went 3-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. Sakisat also went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, a double, and two base on balls.
