The critically acclaimed but controversial play “Vagina Monologues” will soon be staged on Saipan and organizers are scouring the island landscape for cast members.

Off the Beaten Path, the organizers will be holding an organizational meeting for all interested in participating in the play this Monday, Dec. 19, at Neo-Remington’s in the outer café area at 6pm.

Fran Castro, a member of the organization, said Off the Beaten Path is encouraging all individuals ages 16 and above interested in participating in the dramatic production to attend the organizational meeting.

“Capable individuals will be needed to participate in variety of committees including, casting, stage technical, set and costume, organizational, logistical, public relations, merchandising and sales,” Castro said.

She said the casting call is open to women of all ethnicities, ages from 18 and above. “Please join us on Dec. 19 and be apart of a world wide movement for the prevention of violence against women!”

Off the Beaten Path, a local grassroots non-profit organization has exclusive rights to produce “Vagina Monologues,” said Castro. The project will benefit the social service organization Guma Esperansa in the CNMI.

The “Vagina Monologues” is a dramatic performance, produced worldwide in February and March as part of the global “V-Day campaign.” The campaign, said Castro, has raised more than $300 million dollars in eight years for beneficiaries working to end violence against women worldwide.
