‘Ben to focus on economy, Tim to handle admin duties’
Lt. Gov.-elect Timothy P. Villagomez will handle most of the administrative duties of the incoming administration, so that Gov.-elect Benigno R. Fitial can concentrate on obtaining his government’s business-oriented goals, according to a close ally of the newly elected officials.
House leadership spokesman Charles Reyes Jr. said that Speaker Fitial and Vice Speaker Villagomez would maintain their current dynamics at the Legislature when they take over the Executive Branch.
For the past two years, Reyes noted, Villagomez had taken the House leadership’s administrative tasks.
“The governor’s (Fitial) main priority will be to secure investments and have investors hire and train the local workforce. A lot of his time will be spent on this. He will delegate much of the administrative work to the lieutenant governor,” Reyes said.
Fitial and Villagomez have just completed a personally funded trip to Asia, where they met with various business representatives.
According to Reyes, Villagomez’s actions upon assuming office will be based on the transition reports. “He will formulate policy in consultation with the governor,” he added.
Currently, members of the Transition Committee are visiting each agency under the Executive Branch to assess its overall status, including matters concerning finance, personnel and equipment. The committee is expected to generate reports by Dec. 30, 2005.
The new administration will assume office on Jan. 9, 2006.
