SANTA RITA, Guam—Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Michael G. Mullen is scheduled to arrive in Guam today, Jan. 19, for a two-day visit.

Mullen will meet with military officials, including Rear Adm. Joe Leidig, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Marianas, and Capt. Kenneth Freeman, commanding officer of Naval Base Guam. Mullen is expected to meet with Guam Gov. Felix Camacho and other island leaders. He will also have an opportunity to interact with sailors serving in Guam.

Mullen became the 28th CNO in July 2005. As a four-star admiral, Mullen is the senior military officer in the Department of the Navy. He is responsible to the Secretary of the Navy for the command, utilization of resources, and operating efficiency of the operating forces of the Navy and of the Navy shore activities assigned by the Secretary.

A member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the CNO is the principal naval adviser to the President and to the Secretary of the Navy on the conduct of war. (PR)
