Top spot still up for grabs in SBA Open 8-Ball League
The ongoing Saipan Billiards Association Open 8-Ball League will have an interesting close as the top spot has yet to be secured and will be decided in the season finale next week.
This after current second-seed Round Two Hustlers gained ground on league leader Da Terminators in the team standings Tuesday night.
The Hustlers were six games behind Da Terminators entering Tuesday’s match against USSP Fotten Gaga, and kept their hopes of winning it all alive after blanking their opponents 6-0 at Round Two Bar and Grill.
Rowel Mariano, Mario Diola, Jerry Soriano, and Nolan Cultura won their singles matches and joined forces to win the two doubles matches for the Hustlers.
Fortunately for the Hustlers, Da Terminators weren’t able to put up a perfect charge and dropped two matches against VFW What Doing.
With that, Da Terminators hold a 59-19 win-loss card, while the Hustlers are right behind with a 55-23 record.
The two wins by What Doing did good for them as the team moved up to fifth place with a 36-42 record, while USSP Fotten Gaga dropped to sixth with a 34-44 card.
There was another change in the team standings after the Bud Killaz defeated the USSP Fotten Palau, 5-1, to move to third place with a 40-32 record. Fotten Palau fell to fourth place with a 43-35 record. The two teams are separated only by percentage points, with the Killaz winning 55.6 percent of their games and Fotten Palau winning 55.1 percent.
Also, Jewel Night Shooters added six wins to their record after the VFW Leaders failed to compete in their scheduled bout.
In related news, the SBA announced that it would hold its awards banquet on Jan. 31 at the Aliviera Sports Bar. The event is scheduled to begin at 7pm and will also feature raffle drawings. Raffle tickets are still available at a cost of $1.
A meeting will also be held with the planning of the next league as the main agenda.
