SCC sets 1st membership meeting on Feb. 1
The first 2006 general membership meeting of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Aqua Resort Club’s Raraina Room.
At a meeting with Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Interior David Cohen, , he asserted that the CNMI has to be “bullet-proof” on labor issues, to assure that everything is being done to prevent human rights violations.
In response to this, the Chamber’s first guest speaker in 2006 will be Jim Benedetto, who is the Federal Ombudsman with the U.S. Department of Interior. Benedetto will speak about labor issues in the CNMI.
Benedetto received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Puget Sound. He received his law degree in 1990 from the University of Washington. Benedetto has been in the CNMI for 6 1⁄2 years, three of those with the office of the Attorney General and the last 31⁄2 years as Federal Ombudsman.
The general membership meeting buffet and registration are open at 11:30am; meeting begins promptly at noon. Cost of the buffet is $15.
