NMI seaports generate over $1.3M revenue
The Commonwealth’s seaports have generated over $1.3 million in revenue from fees of passengers and commercial vessels in the last three months.
Commonwealth Ports Authority board member Antonio S. Camacho, who chairs the seaport facilities committee, reported this out during a board meeting Friday.
In his report, Camacho disclosed that the bulk of the revenue comes from the Port of Saipan.
While passenger fees from Nov. 19, 2005 to Jan. 13, 2006 only totaled $30,966.75, estimated revenue from commercial vessels for the three-month period totaled over $1.29 million.
Camacho said there were four military vessels that docked at the Port of Saipan during the period. They include the USS Cowpens, USNS San Jose, USNS Charlton, and USNS Flint, which brought in a total of 654 personnel.
The three passenger vessels that came to the island’s port—MS Pacific Venus, MS Asuka, and MS Nippon Maru—had a total of 1,091 passengers.
Estimated revenue for the same period at the Port of Tinian totaled $31,302.62. The amount includes the $11,029.33 in estimated revenue from fees from the delivery of petroleum products by MT Golden Micronesia last Dec. 9 and Jan. 11.
